REVIEW OF COUNCIL BY ELECTIONS FOR 2013

There have been 337 principal local council by-elections during 2013, including those on 2nd May, with 97 (29%) changing hands.

*   Resident Groups had 23 candidates contesting 22 seats
** There were 114 Independents contesting 93 seats plus in addition the No Description winner in West Lindsey, Scotter

Conservatives had official candidates in in 98.5% of the by-elections, Labour in 86%, Lib Dems in 69% whilst UKIP contested 68%.

Conservatives gained 4 seats from Labour, 9 from Lib Dems, 3 from Independents and 1 from UKIP
- whilst losing 14 seats to Labour, 11 to Lib Dems, 9 to Independents / No Description, 10 to UKIP, 2 to Resident Groups and 1 a Liberal

Labour gained 14 seats from Conservatives, 5 from Lib Dems, 3 from Independents, 4 from SNP, 2 from Greens and 1 from each of a Resident Group and UKIP
- whilst losing 4 to Conservatives, 2 to Lib Dems, 1 to a Resident Group and 2 to UKIP

Liberal Democrats gained 11 seats from Conservatives, 2 from Labour and 2 from Independents
- whilst losing 9 to Conservatives, 5 to Labour, 2 each to Independents and UKIP and 1 to Green

UKIP gained 10 seats from Conservatives, 2 from both Labour and Lib Dems and 1 from English Democrats
- whilst losing 1 each to Conservative, Labour and Kidderminster Health

Independents / No Description gained 9 seats from Conservatives and 2 each from Lib Dems and SNP
- whilst losing 3 each to Conservatives and Labour and 2 to Lib Dems

City Independents gained a seat in Stoke-on-Trent from Labour
It Our County gained a Herefordshire seat from Conservatives,
South Woodham Ferrars Independents gained a seat in Chelmsford from Conservatives
Whitewell Residents gained one in Bolsover from a Green whilst
Swanscombe & Greenhithe Residents association lost a seat to Labour in Dartford

Greens gained a seat from Lib Dems whilst losing 2 to Labour and one to a Resident Group
SNP lost 4 seats to Labour and 2 to Independents
Kidderminster Health Concern gained a seat from UKIP
English Democrats lost a seat to UKIP and
Liberal gained a seat from Conservatives
